2. New Book! Odd One In II - Invisible Travel
Travelling could be about ‘being present’; at times, it could have nothing to do with ‘being present’ – it could be an imaginary act for a beautiful, unseen place. On an ordinary day it could also become a wonderful part of our memory, taking us to somewhere far away … an afternoon … a section of the road … or a strip of cloud. Odd One In II: Invisible Travel is a collection of Pak’s art documentation about ‘getting lost’ in an unfamiliar place and ‘seeing from his inner eye’ during his traveling in Italy, New York, Korea, Tokyo, Malaysia and China.

My residency in Asia Art Archive is to photocopy all the blank pages from its collection, attempting to create an alternative to the archive’s collection.

Breathing in a House
01.09.2006–10.09.2006

I live in a small house, Breathing Until I use up all the air in the whole house.

Description:
Hong Kong artist Pak Sheung Chuen’s installation is the outcome of his stay in an average two person flat (6.7m x 2.7m x 2.2m) in Busan. The artist lived in the small apartment for as long as he took to collect the air that fills this place. Breathing air into transparent plastic bags he left the place when all of them filled up the space. The work is a performative investigation into the everyday living situation of the place of the Biennial as well as a sculpturally investigation into the air-space which is defined as the negative space of the place.

To contain the spread of SARS, property management companies place a plastic sheet on the combination lock at the entrance of buildings. They have it cleaned and changed on a regular basis. Collecting starlight
14.08.2005
Golden Bauhinia Square, Wanchai, Hong Kong

I used long-time exposure to ‘steal’ the flash light of the travelers at the Golden Bauhinia Square. It looks like a starry night. (Photo taking time of the 2 photos: 19:56-20:04, 20:07-20:17)

My artwork is about the state of my body in this moment

關於172 cm
About 172 cm

01.2006

05.01.2006 19:48 Kwun Tong /

172 cm met 172cm. I walked and stopped before the height of my body. When a man became a ruler, his body would be only engraved 3 marks: higher than him, shorter than him and as same as him.

A Seat Heated by Human Temperature

01.01.2003-now

Starting from the 28th January 2003, I recorded the temperature coming from the seats of passengers just left. The warmth coming from the body of a stranger passed to me directly through a seating place, although we never know each other before or after. Recorded references include date, venue and identities of passengers (as far as possible). The data showing here is between 2003-1-1 and 2004-3-31.

About Zebra Crossings

27.12.2003 23:15-23:50
Shatin Casstello

The photos were taken just after the workers painted the zebra. The photos bring out the relation between city planning and human habits.
